When someone has a sinus infection there are certain symptoms that are inevitable. These include, but are not limited to, headaches, congestion, fever, coughing and a feeling of excessive tiredness. Any of these could be considered a normal symptom of a sinus infection. But sometimes there are other symptoms of severe sinus infection that become harder to deal with and will send the sufferer to their health care provider or the hospital.

One of the most common symptoms of severe sinus infection is painful headaches that surround the eyes. These are often a warning sign that physicians will tell their patient can develop into something much worse. If a headache gets very bad it can be followed by other serious indicators that can become worrisome. These include a swelling or dropping of the eyelids which can sometimes be followed by an inability to move the eyes. This can be a sign that the sinus infection has spread into the eyes.

Other times it is necessary to be concerned if any the following symptoms of severe sinus infection are seen like a spiking fever, dilating pupils or a persistent cough that has lasted more than ten days. The problem with a sinus infection is that too often the symptoms that surround it are not related to it. But some that are, like the headaches, and so these must be sorted through and determined if they are a cause for concern. This is especially true if the symptoms are lasting longer than the health care provider expected. If there is too much discharge or the color is yellow or green this is a concern. As well, if the fever remains elevated, above one hundred and two degrees Fahrenheit, for more than a couple of days or there is a lack of responses to the prescribed medications these are worrisome signs. All of these are indicators that the sinusitis suffers should return to their health care provider for an examination and revaluation of their condition.
